Whether you’re planning your end of summer camping trip or looking forward to a fall camping getaway, there’s no better time than the present to review steps on how to be the best camper during your vacation. Keep reading for our guide to camping etiquette 101!

Be a courteous guest

Before your trip, take time to review the rules of the campground. Do they allow you to bring your own firewood? What are the check-in/out times? Knowing the rules ahead of time will give you peace of mind during your vacation! You’ll also want to be a good neighbor. For instance, treat neighboring campsites like they are private lawns – avoid walking through them or parking on them. Bringing your furry friend along? Make sure they’re on a leash at your site or in a secure spot. And the last tip to being a courteous guest – observe quiet hours. If you’re arriving late, make sure to keep the noise down while setting up camp. Maybe the kids are in bed and the parents want to relax around the fire. That’s fine! Just remember that you have neighbors so be mindful of the noise level. That goes for the furry friends too – please be mindful of Fido’s barking when you’re away from your site. Woof!

Keep it clean

Everyone loves vacation in the great outdoors – so let’s keep it clean and we can all enjoy it for years to come! What’s the most important thing to remember? Never litter. It should go without saying, but throwing trash on the ground is a major no-no where ever you are, but especially while camping. This includes cigarette butts and cleaning up after your dog. Also, never leave food or trash laying around. It could attract unwanted guests! If you do your part, everyone can enjoy their outdoor camping adventure!

Also, maybe you encounter a messy bathhouse or a broken attraction – let a staff member know so the issue can be addressed immediately. We’ll do our part too in keeping the park clean and running smoothly!

Stay safe

And finally, stay safe while vacationing. It’s easy to get carried away in the fun of a camping trip, but taking steps to ensure you, your family, and your fellow campers are safe is very important. For instance, never leave a campfire unattended. And never leave small children alone around a campfire. Another way to keep everyone safe is minding the speed limit around the campground. Campgrounds are full of active families so drive slow and be alert. Finally, if you’re adventuring out on the water, always wear a life jacket, even if you’re an advanced swimmer!

Now that you’re a pro at being the best camper you can be, it’s time to start planning your camping trip! See you soon!
